Dothage Wins A Last Lap Thriller

#7dj Dryver Dothage was victorious in the box stock main event

Eureka, CA (August 28, 2017) – After more than a month break, outlaw kart action returned to Redwood Acres Raceway this past Sunday afternoon for Harper Motors Day at the Karts. It was the first time a day race has been held at the 1/10-mile dirt speedway and the sun helped make for challenging conditions for drivers in all divisons.

Charles French was quickest in qualifying for the beginner box stock division with an 11.710. French took the win in the trophy dash as well as in one of the heats. The other heat race was taken by Madison Donovan. Kai McCrady absolutely dominated the first ¾ of the main event. Going into the 20-lap main, French was the odds-on favorite but issues on lap two forced the youngster out of action. Timmy Walters spun on lap one but made his way through the field, slicing his way through the competition. By lap 13, Walters had moved into second. Three laps later, Walters got by McCrady for the lead. Walters was able to hang on from then to take the win. McCrady crossed the line second followed by Donovan, Seth Grammer and Danica Kinsey.

Fast time in the Williamson Financial box stock class was set by Deagan Miller at a 10.271. Dryver Dothage won the trophy dash while Dothage and Kadence Mace were the heat race winners. Jeremiah Boldway led the first of 20 laps before giving way to Malessa Miles. Miles was strong and she led the majority of the event. On lap 12, Dothage spun and fell back in the field. Dylan Combest had lost track position after an incident on lap one. He showed amazing speed though as he fought through the pack to take the lead on lap 15. The final handful of laps featured a furious charge from Dothage who was visibly doing everything he could to catch the leader. On the final lap, Dothage made a charge into turn three. He was able to get by Jeremiah Boldway just as Combest got high in turn four. Dothage won the charge to the line to take an exciting victory. Malessa Miles took second while Combest crossed the line third. Derrick Kessler and Mace rounded out the top five finishers.

Ryan Ahrens set quick time in the speedway/old fart kart division with a 10.807. Jeff Smith took the victories in the trophy dash and heat race. Jamie Jorgensen led the opening two laps of the 20-lap main event. He could not hold off Smith who clearly had the kart to beat. Smith was able to sweep the afternoon with another win in the main event. Jorgensen was second while Ahrens placed third.

Landen Green set the pace in the 250 class with a 9.925 qualifying time. Kloey Smith came through to win the trophy dash while Green took the heat race. Green held a clear advantage in the 30-lap feature but a spin on lap 10 knocked him out of the lead, giving it to Malessa Miles who was making her first 250 start. Miles held on for four laps but on lap 15 Green retook the lead. Green was able to lead from that point on and finished first over Miles and Smith.
Tony Miles narrowly set fast time for the 500/open class with a 9.841. Miles was the trophy dash winner while Brett Elliott took the heat. Sadly, Miles was unable to start the 30-lap feature. The race was slowed several times. Dax Williamson and Landen Green in his 200 kart had a back and forth duel that eventually went to Williamson. Green was second over Elliott and Trevor Harper.

The 2017 season for the outlaw karts will go out with a bang as there will be two races on the final weekend of September 16th and 17th. Expect the drivers in all divisions to put on another thrilling show in the special two-day event.
