Moulton Holds Narrow Lead In Super 6 Series Standings

Eureka, CA (June 26, 2017) – After a long two week break, the 2017 season at Redwood Acres Raceway resumed this Saturday night for one of the biggest events of the year. The points races in all six divisions at the Acres are still relatively tight with no clear favorites as of yet.

Daniel Buell holds down the lead in the points for the California State And Federal Employees’ Credit Union roadrunner division. Buell’s advantage over Nick Ford in second place is only four points. 24 points behind Buell in third is Tim Ratzlaff. Fourth Bob Ratzlaff is 18 points behind third while Jennifer is only three points behind in fifth.

The Nor-Cal Automotive Legends will not be in action this weekend which will allow sophomore driver MKinzy Uselton more time to enjoy her lead in the standings. Uselton is 10 points ahead of Legends rookie Dominic Vogelsang. Tyler Peach is another rookie in the division and is 15 points behind Uselton in third. Brent Mack holds down fourth in points while Cody Winchel rounds out the top five.

John Lally has a rather comfortable lead in the Fortuna Wheel & Brake bomber division. Lally’s lead over second place Bethany Rapp is 18 points. Jim Redd is third in the running, 29 markers behind Lally. James Moore holds down fourth and is eight points behind Redd. Kolby Jackson’s 92 total points has him fifth in the bomber division standings.

Veteran racer Brian Murrell, Sr. holds down the lead for the Humboldt Hydroponics mini stock class. Murrell, Sr. has a five point margin over Eugene Palmer in second position. Scott Taylor has had an excellent rookie season thus far and is a surprising third in the standings. Troy Lee is fourth while Brett Murrell is quickly making up ground in the points and sits fifth.

Like the Legends division, the Lone Star Junction Thunder Roadsters will also have the night off this Saturday. Paul Peeples, Jr. enjoys a 16 point lead in the standings over Ronnie O’Neil. Tommy Payne is third in points only seven behind O’Neil. Rookie driver, Jason Mitchell is fourth in the standings and veteran Chris Sarvinski is fifth.

The fourth race of the Super 6 Late Model Challenge Series is set to take place Saturday night with the running of the Don Graham Memorial Firecracker 100. It’s the next to last race for the series at RAR which is presented by Danielson Construction, Mid-City Motor World and North Coast Lighting And Electric.
Mic Moulton won the May 13th race and is the current point leader for the series. Eric Gannon has yet to win thus far but has been steady and consistent all year long. Gannon is only seven points behind Moulton. David Henderson won the most recent Super 6 race on June 10th and is 17 points behind Moulton in third place. Marty Walsh is still in the points fight in spite of some bad luck this season. Walsh is fourth in the standings and is only two points behind Henderson. Kenny Demello is a bit of a surprise with his fifth place in the standings.

As if the racing on the track won’t be action packed enough on Saturday night, the event will be capped off with the annual fireworks display. Grandstands open at 5:00 PM while racing begins at 6:00 PM. Boldway Wins Box Stock Thriller

Jacob Boldway won the box stock main

Eureka, CA (June 18, 2017) – Outlaw karting action returned to Redwood Acres Raceway this past weekend for the third event of the season. Six divisions took to the 1/10th-mile dirt oval on what proved to be an exciting night of action.

Charles French set fast time in Beginner Box Stock qualifying with an 11.418. T.J. Sorrels was in familiar territory as he won the trophy dash. Emma Hudman took the first heat win while Sorrels won the second. Kai McCrady-Hirsch and Madison Donovan brought the field to the green in the 20-lap main event. McCrady-Hirsch led lap one but was passed by Timmy Walters on lap two. Walters held on to the top spot until lap six when Sorrels took over. Janice Walters continues to show improvement with each race and she held down the second spot for the majority of the event until getting passed in the final handful of laps by Charles French. At the finish it was Sorrels winning over French, Timmy Walters, Hudman and Janice Walters.

The UAS karts were in action for the night. Larry Fuller took the win in the trophy dash while Sean Fuller was the heat race winner. Kenny Boardman led the first eight laps of the 15-lap main event but Larry Fuller was able to take the lead and the victory.

Steve Rambo was fasted in the Speedway/Old Fart division with a time of 11.846. Brionna Fuller took the win in the trophy dash while Wayne Fisher took the heat race victory. Robbie Robinson and Ryan Ahrens brought the field to the green in the 20-lap main event. Ahrens took the advantage at the start and had a spirited duel with Wayne Fisher for the lead between laps six and nine. A caution flag bunched the field on lap 14. Under the yellow, Fisher’s kart died and had to be restarted by track officials. Because of this, Fisher was forced to restart at the rear of the field which gave Ahrens the lead. Rambo was Ahrens’ toughest competitor in the final few laps but spun on the last lap. At the finish it was Ahrens winning over Lori Fuller, Jeff Smith, Wayne Fisher and Brandon Fisher.

15 Williamson Financial Group Box Stocks took time on the night and Dryver Dothage was fastest with a 10.903. Dothage was victorious in the trophy dash. In the heat races, Dothage and Jeremiah Boldway were winners. The 20-lap main event might have been the most competitive race on the dirt since the outlaw karts started racing at Redwood Acres Raceway in 2016. Boldway was strong, leading the first nine laps. A fantastic duel ensued between Boldway, Kasey Simmons and Dothage. Simmons led lap 10, Dothage lap 11 and Simmons lap 12 and 13. Dothage took the lead on lap 14 and looked primed to take the feature win. Dothage made a rare error on lap 17 as he spun out of the lead off turn two. Boldway took over. He was able to hold on and take the win over Simmons by a little over one second. Malessa Miles was a close third while Derek Kessler and Sophia Bauer rounded out the top five finishers.

Qualifying for the 200 karts was paced by Anissa Curtice with a 9.839 lap. Landen Green was the winner of the trophy dash while the heat race was won by Curtice. In the 30-lap main, Curtice was dominant. She took the lead on lap one and never looked back. At the finish, her margin of victory over second place, Katie Carr was three laps. MKinzey Uselton took third while Green was fourth.

Curtice was also racing her 500 kart on the night and just as in the 250s, she set fast time with a 9.639. Kenny Boardman took trophy dash honors while Tony Miles won the heat race. Boardman led the opening 10 laps of the 30-lap main but fell out of the race giving the lead to Curtice. Miles proved to be Curtice’s closest challenger but clutch issues forced him out of the race on lap 15. Curtice went on to take another main event victory on the night, beating Dax Williamson by nearly a full lap. Miles was credited with third followed by Boardman and Chelsea Champagne.

Outlaw kart action at the Acres takes a break for over two months before returning Friday August 25th. Racing on the 3/8-mile paved oval will return Saturday July 1st. Roadrunners, bombers and mini stocks will be in action while Legends and Thunder Roadsters will have the night off. The feature attraction for the night will be the Don Graham Memorial Firecracker 100 for the late models. In addition to the 100-lap race, Redwood Acres Raceway will host a firework display at the conclusion of the racing activities. It’s sure to be a can’t-miss event. Williamson Wins 500/Open Outlaw Kart Feature

#49 Tater Reich won the box stock feature

Eureka, CA (June 12, 2017) – Outlaw kart action returned to Redwood Acres Raceway for the second time in 2017. All five divisions of Beginner Box Stocks, Box Stocks, Old Fart Karts, 250s and 500s/open karts took to the .110-dirt track in the raceway’s infield. Scott Hammond State Farm sponsored what proved to be an interesting night of action.

T.J. Sorrels set fast time in the Beginner Box Stock division with an 11.964. Charles French won the trophy dash while the two heat race winners were Timmy Walters and Sorrels. As he has done many times, Sorrels moved to the lead quickly in the 20-lap feature, from back in the pack to the lead by the end of lap one. Janice Walters made a good account for herself as she moved to second and held on to that position until lap 10 when French was able to move by. At the checkered flag, Sorrels held over a seven second lead over French. Janice Walters took third followed by Timmy Walters in fourth and Zakunda Fansler in fifth.

Wayne Fisher was quickest in the Old Fart division with a time of 11.550. It was Fisher’s night as not only did he set quick time but he also dominated, winning the trophy dash, heat race and main event. Fisher’s margin of victory over second place, Jeff Smith was 1.322 seconds. Casey Fisher finished in the third position.

Fast time for the Box Stock karts was Tater Reich with a 10.773 lap. Reich took the trophy dash win. In the heat races, Deagan Miller and Malessa Miles took top honors. Miller led the first two laps in the 20-lap main event but was forced to give way to Reich on lap three. That same lap, Reich spun handing the lead over to Grant Williamson. The caution flew and on the restart, Miles took over as the leader. It did not take Reich long to get back to the lead as he restarted 10th and was the leader by lap six. Reich dominated from there, taking the victory by over a lap over second place Miles. Quentin Ikeya placed third followed by Kadence Mace and Dylan Combest.

Skyler Cole’s 9.856 was good enough to earn fast time in the 250 karts. Landen Green won the trophy dash while the heat race was taken by Cole. Landen Green led the opening three laps in the 30-lap main event but it was Cole who was quickest as he took the lead on lap four and never looked back. At the finish it was Cole beating Green by nearly five seconds. MKinzy Uselton took the third position.

Qualifying for the 500/Open karts was led by Dax Williamson with a 9.670. Williamson followed up with wins in the trophy dash and heat races. Brett Elliott led the opening 10 circuits in the 30-lap feature but on lap 11, Tony Miles took over. Miles led until lap 23 when Williamson took over from there. At the finish it was Williamson sweeping the night as he was able to win by a full lap over Miles in second position. Elliott placed third while Nick Green was credited with fourth.

It’s a quick turnaround for the karts as the third race on the docket is Saturday June 17th. Gates open at 5:00 PM while mud packing begins at 5:45 PM. Racing on the 3/8-mile paved track is off for two weeks before returning Saturday July 1st. The Super 6 Challenge Series late models will be in action in the Don Graham Memorial 100, the fourth race of the series in 2017. Following the racing action will be the annual fireworks show which has been a crowd pleaser the past several years. Henderson Survives Full Moon Fever, Wins Biggest Race of Career

Late model winner, David Henderson

Eureka, CA (June 11, 2017) – It was Harper Motors Night this past Saturday at Redwood Acres Raceway. Joining the roadrunners, Legends, bombers, mini stock and Thunder Roadsters for the night were the late models for their third race of the Super 6 Late Model Challenge series.

Fast time for the California State and Federal Employee’s Credit Union roadrunner division was set by Daniel Buell with a 20.499. The first of the two main events for the division was ran backwards as Tim Ratzlaff took the lead on lap two and dominated the 20-lap event, leading 14 laps. Lap 16 proved to be Ratzlaff’s downfall as he hit the wall in turn three and fell out of the race. This handed the lead to Natya Dawn who had her hands full with Nick Ford. Dawn held the advantage on the white flag lap but going down the back stretch, Ford got the lead. At the finish it was Ford taking the win over Dawn, Daniel Buell, Bob Ratzlaff and Lindsey Zito.

Daniel Buell quickly raced to the lead of the second feature which was run under normal circumstances. The 21-second breakout rule came into effect in the latter stages of the race as both Buell and Tim Ratzlaff were forced to slow and allow the position behind to pass them. This played into Dawn’s favor as she was able to wrangle the lead with three laps to go. Unfortunately for her, just as in the previous race, Dawn was unable to hold off second place. Buell was able to get by on the final lap to take the win. Dawn held on for another second over Tim Ratzlaff, Ford and Jennifer Murrell.

Tyler Peach was the quickest in qualifying for the Nor-Cal Automotive Legends division with a time of 18.699. The night proved to belong to Peach as he was able to sweep the event with wins in the trophy dash, heat race and main event. Dominic Vogelsang placed second in the main followed by MKinzy Uselton.

In the Fortuna Wheel & Brake bomber division, R.J. Randall set fast time with an 18.207. Donnie Brown won the trophy dash and the heat race victories. A big incident ensued on the first lap of the 25-lap main event with Kolby Jackson and John Lally getting the worse end of it as both cars suffered damage. Lally was forced out of the race. On the restart, Randall took over and pulled out to a comfortable lead. Mike Sullivan slowly reeled in Randall in the closing stages but could only manage to get a little over a second to Randall. At the checkered it was Randall winning over Sullivan, James Moore, Brown and Bethany Rapp.

Brett Murrell set fast time in the Humboldt Hydroponics mini stock division with an 18.987. Murrell followed his top qualifying time with a win in the trophy dash. Rick Estes was the winner of the first heat race while Scott Taylor narrowly won the second heat. It didn’t take Brett Murrell long to move to the lead as he was able to move from the back of the pack to first in only two laps. Jarrett Mayo looked to be Murrell’s stiffest competitor in the early going but heavy smoke began to pour from his car and he was forced into the pits. Murrell pulled out to what proved to be an insurmountable lead. At the finish it was Murrell taking the win over his father, Brian Murrell, Sr. Eugene Palmer was third followed by Estes and Taylor.

Paul Peeples, Jr. was the top driver in qualifying for the Lone Star Junction Thunder Roadster division. Peeples timed in with a 17.194. Tommy Payne won the trophy dash while Peeples took heat race honors. The main event proved to be Peeples’ playground as he was in the lead by lap two. As Peeples pulled away, the battle for second was as good as it gets with Payne and O’Neil trading the spot numerous times. With five laps remaining in the 30-lap feature, Payne was able to secure second from O’Neil. Peeples advantage at the finish was nearly four seconds over Payne and O’Neil. Chris Lawrence took third while Tyler Peach placed fourth in his first time in a Thunder Roadster.

15 late models took time in the Super Six Late Model Challenge series presented by Danielson Construction, Mid-City Motor World and North Coast Lighting and Electric. Mic Moulton set the standard in qualifying with a time of 15.922. The finish of the heat races determined the starting lineup for the 75-lap feature. Richard Knight won the first heat which garnered him the ninth starting position for the main. Eric Gannon won the second heat race and secured the pole position for the feature. Gannon took the lead at the start of the main but had his hands full as David Henderson was tight in his mirror. The two ran nose-to-tail for the first 28 laps. On lap 29, Henderson maneuvered under Gannon to take the lead.

A spin by Richard Knight on lap 34 brought out a rash of cautions. Tyler Avelar and George Young had a meeting with the water barrels at the turn two pit entrance forcing a caution flag and a lengthy cleanup. Two more lengthy cleanups ensued as oil was dropped on the track. When things got going again, Henderson got to moving. By lap 40, Henderson was out to a comfortable lead as Marty Walsh took second from Gannon.

As the race went on, Henderson’s strength did not wane. Moulton took second from Walsh in the final few laps but had no chance of catching Henderson without the aid of a caution flag. Henderson took the victory by over half the length of the 3/8-mile paved oval. Moulton placed second with Walsh, Gannon and Tim Crenshaw rounding out the top five.

Racing at Redwood Acres Raceway takes a two week break before returning Saturday July 1st for the Don Graham Memorial Firecracker 100 for the late models. While Legends and Thunder Roadsters will have the night off, roadrunners, mini stocks and bombers will also be in action. Following the races will be the annual fireworks spectacular which has become a huge attraction for fans. For those looking for their oval-racing fix in the next few weeks, outlaw kart action will take place Saturday June 17th.
